Of late, the beautiful game of football has gone through many allegations on match fixing, corruption, and there have been many resignations from office holders of FIFA. Nobody wants to see this beautiful game insinuated into simply a game that deals with the corrupt by providing it with moneymaking opportunities. However, most of the time, you realize that the rot is substantial, and things need to be done in order to prevent such an incident from happening all over again. This is the reason why there are certain steps that need to be taken by the authorities, in the global and the club level to prevent such incidences from happening.
- It is always pertinent to maintain transparency on any kind of administrative affairs that happen in the global as well as the club level. Of course, there are always going to be lobbying, people providing preferential treatments and a whole lot of other things that happen as part of administrative reforms and features. However, that should not in any way promote or provide a corruption, particularly when billions of people watch the game and have a lot of faith that the game being played has not been influenced in any manner possible.
- The formation of the anticorruption unit will need to be done at the earliest possible opportunity and it needs to be forever vigilant. Ample resources, be it in the form of gadgets or the expenses will need to be allocated to this unit so that any kind of match fixing details that come out in the general public can be pursued upon without any hindrances whatsoever. If and when there is a problem, trials and discussions will need to be done with the concerned parties in order to find out if they have indulged in match fixing or not. If guilty, exemplary punishment will need to be meted out to them.
- Internal investigations will need to be done on each platform to understand if bookmakers to tilt the game in their favor have approached players. The players will also need to be educated on each feature of corruption or corruption-enabled activities that could end up giving them a lifetime ban from this game. The players will need to approach the anticorruption unit in the very first instance in which such unscrupulous people approach them.
