It is our stated aim to provide the sport of Rugby Union in Thanet at the highest quality and for as many people as possible, be they players or supporters and to be a part of youth development in the area.
Thanet Wanderers are delighted to welcome players to our rugby club where I'm sure any new player would experience not only a good standard of rugby, at whatever level they wish to play, but also an enjoyable social scene. Certainly other players who have joined us in recent years, either from home or abroad, have all enjoyed their time with us both on and off the field.
The 1st XV have just been promoted back to London & South East Division 1 from which we were demoted two seasons ago after eight years in that division. London 1 is one league below National League status and after consolidation this coming season our next ambition is promotion to National League 3 South.
Our major achievement was winning the RFU National Intermediate Cup (for all clubs below National League status) at Twickenham in 1997. We also won the Kent County Cup for the first time in our 115 year history in 2001. We regularly provide players to the Kent County representative sides at all age groups.
The whole club, as well as the 1st XV, remains very strong. We still regularly field five senior teams on a Saturday and this season enjoyed success with our 2nd XV winning the Kent Invicta League and our 3rd XV winning the East Kent Cup. We are also very strong in our mini sections from Under 7 to Under 12 and junior teams from U13 to U19. We also have women's and girl's sections. The coaching structure at all levels is excellent.
We are a very well supported club regularly attracting crowds of 500 to home 1st XV matches (1000 for major games). We took close to 7000 to Twickenham for our cup final in 1997.
Whilst the club does not pay players to play we do help to find accommodation and employment. For 1st XV squad players we also cover all playing expenses e.g. kit, travel expenses etc.
Thanet (comprising the towns of Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate) is a pleasant coastal area, with good sandy beaches but still only 70 miles from London. If you visit the Isle of Thanet tourism website, it will give you some idea of the area.
If you would like further details on the club or location please get in touch. Ideally we would like some C.V. details e.g. age, playing positions, playing experience, work experience and requirements etc.
